Heavy Duty TDPB-1900 CNC Foam Skiving Machine for Continuous Ultra-Thin Foam Sheet

Heavy Duty TDPB-1900 CNC Foam Skiving Machine for Continuous Ultra-Thin Foam Sheet

Product Introduction

The TDPB-1900 is a heavy-duty CNC foam skiving machine built for continuous production of ultra-thin PU sponge sheets. It peels cylindrical foam rolls and rectangular blocks into sheets from 0.5 mm to 30 mm, running at up to 160 m/min with ±0.05 mm accuracy in the 0.5–3 mm range. The machine sits on a full steel plate body weighing 4000 kg, which absorbs cutting vibration and keeps thickness stable even when the band knife runs at full speed all day.

This is the machine we recommend when sheet quality decides the next process. In laminating, insole and mattress lines, a thickness variation of a few hundredths of a millimetre shows up immediately as wrinkles, glue lines or reject die-cuts. The TDPB-1900 holds that tolerance through the shift because the knife pushing device, the front sponge roller and the band knife wheels work together automatically instead of relying on operator feel.

With a 500–2300 mm working width, the machine covers both narrow insole rolls and full-width mattress blocks on the same platform. Factories with a mixed order book can switch between product lines without changing machines, and the 160 m/min cutting speed keeps daily output high enough to feed a downstream lamination, cutting or die-cutting line continuously.

The machine is also a practical upgrade for plants still peeling by hand or on a semi-automatic machine. Once thickness is set on the CNC panel, the output no longer depends on how experienced the operator is that day, and the peeled sheet can go straight into lamination without a sanding step.

Core Design and Key Components

The frame is fabricated from full steel plate rather than a lighter welded tube structure, giving the machine the mass needed to absorb cutting force. Every component that touches the blade path — wheel, holder plate, pushing device and front roller — is designed around one goal: keeping the knife contact force constant while the band wears.

  • Band knife wheel: alloy steel with hardness above HRC60, wear-resistant with a service life of more than 10 years.
  • Blade holder plate: high-speed alloy steel at HRC60, rated for more than 8 years under normal production.
  • Knife pushing device: automatic knife feeding with individual manual fine adjustment, so thickness can be corrected by a few hundredths of a millimetre without stopping the line.
  • Front sponge roller: rises automatically at the end of each roll for an accurate tail cut instead of a tapered or torn sheet.
  • Automatic wheel advance: as the band knife wears, the wheels move forward to keep uniform force on every contact surface.
  • CNC control system: one panel controls feed speed, knife position, thickness setting and roller lift, so settings are stored rather than adjusted by hand.

How the Skiving Process Works

  1. Material loading: the foam roll or block is placed on the feed table and centred against the guide, with the front sponge roller holding it against the band knife.
  2. Thickness setting: the target thickness is entered on the CNC panel, and the knife pushing device moves the blade holder to the calculated position.
  3. Continuous peeling: the band knife runs at up to 160 m/min while the feed roller advances the foam, peeling one continuous sheet at a time with no cutting marks.
  4. Automatic compensation: the knife wheels advance as the band knife wears, keeping contact force and sheet thickness constant through the shift.
  5. Tail cutting: the front sponge roller lifts automatically at the end of the roll for an accurate tail cut.
  6. Sheet collection: the peeled sheet is taken off on the outfeed side and stacked for lamination, or fed directly into a cutting, die-cutting or rolling line.

Key Selling Points

  • Heavy-duty full steel frame: 4000 kg machine weight absorbs vibration and holds the blade path stable at 160 m/min.
  • Ultra-thin, high-accuracy cutting: 0.5–30 mm thickness range with ±0.05 mm accuracy in the 0.5–3 mm band used by laminating and insole production.
  • Wide 500–2300 mm working width: one machine covers narrow insole rolls and full-width mattress blocks, reducing changeover between orders.
  • Long-life tooling: HRC60 alloy steel band knife wheel rated for more than 10 years, and an HRC60 high-speed steel blade holder plate rated for more than 8 years.
  • Automatic knife feeding plus manual fine adjustment: correct thickness without stopping production or removing the blade.
  • Mark-free surface at 160 m/min: high cutting speed combined with a rigid frame produces a smooth sheet that needs no secondary sanding.
  • Low labour dependency: automatic roller lift, automatic compensation and CNC thickness setting let one operator run the machine and keep tolerance.

Accuracy figures refer to the 0.5–3 mm thickness band on standard PU sponge. On softer or lower-density foams the sheet compresses slightly under the roller, so the first sheet of a new roll should be measured and, if necessary, fine-adjusted on the manual compensator.

Why 160 m/min Matters in Production

Cutting speed is often quoted as a headline number, but in daily production it decides how the machine fits into a line. At 160 m/min, a single pass produces a long, continuous sheet quickly enough that the skiver can stay ahead of a lamination or cutting line instead of becoming the bottleneck. Higher speed also means the knife spends less time in contact with the foam at any one point, which reduces frictional heat on low-density PU and helps prevent a glazed or compressed surface.

The limit is not only the motor. A light frame would vibrate at that speed and leave chatter marks, which is why the 4000 kg steel plate body is part of the performance specification rather than an extra. Combined with automatic knife compensation, the machine can run at high speed for a full shift without the operator stopping to correct thickness or re-track the blade.

Primary Applications

  • Mattress and furniture: continuous thin PU sponge sheets for mattress quilting, sofa cushion wrap and non-woven lamination.
  • Shoe material: ultra-thin foam slices for insoles, lining, tongue padding and heel counters, where 0.5–3 mm accuracy is critical.
  • Composite lamination: uniform long foam sheets fed directly into fabric, film or adhesive lamination lines.
  • Sponge deep processing: cylindrical foam peeling for subsequent slicing, profiling and forming.
  • Packaging: even PE and EPE pearl cotton sheets for protective inserts and electronics packaging.
  • Automotive interiors: thin foam layers for seat backing, headliner and acoustic insulation.
  • Medical and hygiene: soft foam sheets for dressing pads, cushioning and single-use supports.

Material Compatibility and Cutting Notes

The machine handles flexible PU sponge, memory foam, EVA, PE, EPE pearl cotton and similar flexible foams in roll or block form. Performance depends on three inputs the operator can control:

  • Foam density: lower-density foams compress more under the roller, so expect to fine-tune thickness on the first sheet of each new roll.
  • Material condition: foam should be dry and free of hard contamination such as metal, wood or cured glue, which can damage the band knife.
  • Roll alignment: a roll that is not centred against the guide will produce a wedge-shaped sheet regardless of the thickness setting.

For very soft foams, reducing feed speed slightly gives a cleaner surface than running at maximum speed. For dense or rebonded foam, check blade sharpness more often and keep the sharpening cycle on schedule.

Installation, Maintenance and Service

The machine ships with a foundation and layout drawing, wiring diagram and English operation manual. Installation is straightforward on a level concrete floor; anchor bolts are recommended where the floor transmits vibration. Commissioning support is provided remotely, and on-site installation plus operator training can be arranged on request.

Routine maintenance covers four items: checking band knife tension and tracking at the start of each shift, cleaning the sharpening and suction area daily, lubricating the feed roller bearings weekly, and inspecting the blade holder plate monthly. A spare band knife and a set of guide components can be shipped with the machine so wear parts are replaced on site instead of waiting for an import delivery.

Quality Control, Packaging and Shipping

Every machine is assembled, run and inspected before shipment. The band knife is tracked and the thickness setting verified on sample foam, and the test sheet is packed with the documentation so the customer can compare the result after installation. Electrical configuration is CE compliant for European and other export markets.

The main frame is shipped nude with rust-proof treatment and protective film, while the band knife, control components and small spare parts travel in wooden cases. One standard machine fits into a 20-foot container with the frame secured by steel straps and timber blocking. Standard delivery is 45 working days after the down payment is confirmed, shipped from Qingdao port. Payment terms are T/T or L/C, minimum order quantity is one set, and supply ability is three sets per season.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can it peel a rectangular block as well as a cylindrical roll?

A: Yes. Cylindrical rolls from 20 to 1600 mm diameter and rectangular blocks within the 500–2300 mm width can be peeled. Blocks need to be centred and supported so they feed straight into the blade.

Q: What if my roll is not perfectly round?

A: Slight ovality is tolerable, but a badly out-of-shape roll will cause thickness variation because the surface speed changes as it rotates. Square the ends and remove damaged outer layers before peeling.

Q: How is ±0.05 mm held across a whole shift?

A: Three mechanisms work together: the knife pushing device feeds automatically to the set thickness, the knife wheels advance as the band wears to keep contact force constant, and the front roller holds the foam against the blade. Measure the first sheet of each roll and fine-tune on the manual compensator if needed.

Q: What happens when the band knife wears or breaks?

A: Normal wear is compensated automatically by the advancing wheels. When the edge can no longer be restored, the band knife is replaced — one spare blade shipped with the machine is enough to avoid a production stop.

Q: Can the sheet go straight into a laminator without sanding?

A: Yes. The high cutting speed and rigid frame produce a mark-free surface, which is why the machine is normally placed directly upstream of the lamination line.

Q: Will very soft or low-density foam compress during peeling?

A: Soft foam does compress slightly under the roller. Reduce feed speed, keep the blade sharp, and measure the first sheet of a new roll rather than assuming the setting carries over from a denser material.

Q: What if I need sheets wider than 2300 mm?

A: The maximum working width is 2300 mm. A wider block cannot be peeled in one pass, so either specify a wider configuration or split the block first.

Q: How many people are needed to operate it?

A: One operator per shift. Loading and unloading are the manual tasks; thickness setting, knife feed, wheel compensation and roller lift run automatically.

Q: Can it process EVA and PE as well as PU sponge?

A: Yes for flexible EVA, PE, EPE and similar foams. Denser materials cut more cleanly at lower feed speed; send a sample and we will confirm the setting.

Q: What is required on site before installation?

A: A level concrete floor that can carry 4000 kg, a 13.16 kW supply matched to your voltage and frequency, and clearance around the 5000×2500×2000 mm footprint. Commissioning is supported remotely, with on-site installation available on request.
