TDP-4L Band Knife Vertical Foam Cutting Machine 1.68kw PU EVA EPE Block Cutter

1250mm Cutting Height Band Knife Foam Cutting Machine with 1.68kW Motor for PU EVA EPE Vertical Foam Cutter

The TDP-4L is a vertical band knife cutting machine built for foam converters who reduce large blocks into strips and slabs. A continuous band blade runs on two wheels and passes through the block in a single vertical plane, so each cut leaves a straight face with a clean edge. The working height is 1250 mm and the motor is rated at 1.68 kW.

Two versions are produced. The Standard version uses a 1320 × 2500 mm inner worktable, an 1800 × 2500 mm outer worktable, an 8000 mm band blade, a machine weight of 1800 kg and an overall size of 4000 × 4000 × 2400 mm. The Oversize version increases the inner worktable to 1650 × 2500 mm and the outer worktable to 2000 × 2500 mm, uses a 9000 mm band blade, weighs 1900 kg and measures 4350 × 4000 × 2400 mm.

The material list covers PU sponge, EVA, PE, EPE pearl cotton, paper and cardboard. That mix makes the machine useful in furniture padding, packaging inserts, shoe and luggage production and general foam pre-cutting, where one unit has to handle several material types in the same week.

What the Machine Does in the Line
  1. Foam block arrives from curing
  2. Block base trimmed flat
  3. Vertical band knife cutting
  4. Strip and slab take-off
  5. Slicing, lamination or packing

The TDP-4L sits at the block reduction stage. A cured PU block is placed on the inner worktable, aligned against the guide, and pushed through the band blade. The blade divides the block vertically, producing strips of a set width or slabs of a set thickness. Those pieces then move to a horizontal slicer for thin sheet, to a contour machine for shaped parts, or directly to lamination and assembly.

Because the machine accepts a block up to 1250 mm tall, the block does not have to be cut down before vertical work begins. That removes one handling step and one re-clamping step, both of which add cost and reduce yield at the end of the block.

Band Knife Cutting System
Continuous Loop Blade

The 8000 mm or 9000 mm band blade runs in one direction, cutting the foam instead of compressing it.

Even Wear Along the Loop

A long blade spreads wear over more cutting edge, so strip quality stays stable through the batch.

Guided Vertical Path

Blade guides above and below the work zone hold the cut in one plane, even at the full 1250 mm height.

A band knife is a continuous loop of blade steel running over two wheels. Because the blade is long and supported at two points, the cutting edge stays cooler and wears more evenly than a short straight blade. The loop also allows a thinner blade section, which reduces the material displaced during the cut and produces a tighter tolerance on soft foam.

The 8000 mm blade on the Standard version and the 9000 mm blade on the Oversize version provide a long working section between the guides. In daily use that length spreads wear over more cutting edge, so the interval between blade changes is longer and the cut quality stays consistent across a shift.

How the Vertical Cut Is Made

The block is placed on the inner worktable and aligned against the guide. The operator pushes the block forward at a steady rate, and the band blade separates it along a vertical plane. Because the blade is guided above and below the working zone, the cut stays in one plane even when the block is 1250 mm tall.

Block preparation decides the result before the first cut. A block with a sloped or damaged base will rock on the table, and the strips will vary in height from one end to the other. Trimming the base flat is therefore part of the job, not an optional step. Feed rate is the second variable: soft PU sponge can be pushed faster, while dense EVA and PE need a slower, even advance so the blade does not deflect. Blade condition is the third: a dull or incorrectly joined blade compresses the foam and leaves a rounded edge.

The machine supplies the fixed references — a flat worktable, a rigid frame and a blade running in a single plane. Once those are correct, strip width depends on the guide setting and the operator's rhythm, which are far easier to control than a hand cut.

Standard and Oversize: What Changes

The two versions share the same cutting height and motor, so the cut itself is identical. What changes is the size of block that can be handled comfortably and the length of blade available for the cut.

On the Standard version, the inner worktable is 1320 mm wide and the outer worktable 1800 mm wide, with an 8000 mm blade. On the Oversize version those figures rise to 1650 mm and 2000 mm, and the blade grows to 9000 mm. The Oversize machine also weighs 100 kg more and is 350 mm longer overall.

The choice is therefore a question of block width and floor space, not of cutting performance. A plant receiving blocks up to roughly 1300 mm wide can work with the Standard version. A plant that regularly handles wider blocks, or that wants more support on the infeed and outfeed sides, should take the Oversize version and check that the extra 350 mm of length fits the layout.

A practical method is to list the block widths purchased over the last year, add a handling margin, and compare the result with the inner worktable width. If the figure is close to the limit, the larger table removes a daily alignment problem.

Materials and Typical Finished Products
  • PU sponge: the main material. Flexible grades cut cleanly at a moderate feed; denser grades need a slower advance to avoid tearing at the exit face.
  • EVA: closed-cell and firm. It produces a clean vertical face and little dust when the blade is sharp; used for shoe insoles, luggage lining and sports pads.
  • PE foam: softer than EVA and slightly more compressible, so a steady continuous feed works better than an interrupted push rhythm.
  • EPE pearl cotton: low density and light. Support the block along its length and use a light feed so the material does not press into the blade.
  • Paper and cardboard: cut as sheet or stacked board; the vertical blade gives a straight edge for composite packing work.

Rigid plastics, wood, mineral fibre and foam containing hard inclusions are outside the scope of this machine. When a new material is introduced, a short sample trial confirms blade choice and feed rate before a production batch is committed.

Position in the Foam Production Line

Vertical cutting is an early conversion step. In a typical plant the sequence runs: foaming, curing, block trimming, vertical cutting into strips or slabs, then slicing, profile shaping, lamination, cutting to length and packing. The TDP-4L sits at the block reduction stage, before any thin-sheet or shaped-part work.

Upstream. Blocks must be cured and their bases trimmed before vertical cutting. Storage on a flat pallet and a level floor prevent the base from deforming under its own weight, which would otherwise appear as a height variation along the strip.

Downstream. Strips from the TDP-4L move to a horizontal slicer for thin sheet, to a contour machine for shaped parts, or directly to lamination and assembly. In packaging production, EPE and PE strips go to die-cutting or a packing bench. In furniture production, PU strips go to cushion assembly and covering. In shoe and luggage plants, EVA blanks go to cutting and stitching.

Applications
  • Furniture padding: vertical cutting of PU sponge blocks for sofa and mattress padding.
  • Packaging: EPE and PE pearl cotton cutting for shockproof inserts, corner protection and protective packaging.
  • Shoe and luggage: EVA blank cutting for insoles, lining materials and structural padding.
  • Composite material plants: pre-cutting cardboard and foam blanks before further processing.
  • General converters: block and strip reduction where a straight vertical face is required.
  • Sports and leisure: block cutting for mats, pads and impact foam components.

Across these sectors the machine does the same job: it converts a large block into strips of controlled width at a rate set by the operator's feed. That consistency allows the next process to run without constant adjustment.

Selection Guide

Four questions settle the specification. First, what is the maximum block width to be handled? This decides Standard or Oversize. Second, what is the maximum block height? The machine is rated to 1250 mm, so taller blocks need a different approach. Third, which materials will be cut? PU sponge, EVA, PE, EPE pearl cotton, paper and cardboard are within scope; other materials need confirmation. Fourth, what output per shift is needed? Vertical cutting is a manual-feed operation, so output depends on strip width, block height and operator rhythm.

Buyers replacing hand cutting normally order the machine with a spare band blade and a guide setting gauge. Buyers adding vertical capacity to an existing line should confirm the infeed and outfeed space and the floor loading, because the machine weighs 1800 kg or 1900 kg. Sharing block sizes, material list and target output at the enquiry stage allows the version and blade specification to be confirmed in one step.

Site Requirements: Power, Floor and Environment

The TDP-4L is a fixed machine weighing 1800 kg or 1900 kg, with an overall length of 4000 mm or 4350 mm and a height of 2400 mm. It should stand on a level concrete floor with adequate load capacity for the machine and the block being handled. A floor that deflects will disturb blade alignment and show up as a tapered strip.

Allow clear working space at the infeed and outfeed ends so a full block can be positioned and a cut strip removed without twisting. General lighting above the cutting zone helps the operator follow the guide line, and local extraction or general ventilation is recommended where fine foam dust is produced.

Installation, Commissioning and Training

The electrical connection should be made by a qualified electrician to a circuit rated for the machine, with an isolator close to the operator position. Voltage, phase and frequency are confirmed for the destination country at the time of order.

Commissioning follows a short sequence: level the frame, check that the band blade is correctly tensioned and tracked, confirm that the guide is square to the blade, then cut a trial block and measure the strip at both ends. That single check confirms alignment and catches many installation errors before they reach production.

Operator training covers blade inspection, guide setting, feed technique and the shut-down routine. A new operator can usually produce acceptable strips after a short training period, because the blade path is fixed and only the feed needs to be learned.

Operation and Maintenance
  • Before the shift: inspect the band blade for cracks, missing teeth or a damaged joint; confirm tension and tracking; check the guide setting against the work order.
  • During production: keep both hands behind the block, feed at a steady rate, and do not reach across the blade to clear offcuts.
  • After the shift: isolate the power, clean the worktable, blade and guides, and record any change in cut quality or blade condition.
  • Weekly: check blade tension and tracking, inspect the joint, and confirm fasteners on the frame and blade supports.
  • Monthly: lubricate moving and adjustment points, inspect wheel bearings and electrical connections, and confirm the machine is still level.

Spares normally held on site are one or two band blades, a tensioning tool, guide inserts and a set of fasteners. Blade life depends on material density and abrasive content, so a plant cutting dense EVA and PE should keep more blade stock than a plant cutting soft PU sponge. A worn blade should be replaced or re-joined by a trained technician rather than run until it fails, because a broken blade can damage the guides and the worktable.

Quality Control

A three-point check at the machine catches many defects before the strip leaves the area. Check strip width at the start, middle and end of the block, which reveals guide drift or a block that is not square. Check the cut face for waves, tearing or a rounded edge, which point to feed rate, blade tension or blade condition. Check strip height at both ends, which shows if the block base was flat or the worktable was not level.

For strips that will be laminated or covered, place the cut face on a flat reference and check for light gaps. A face that is straight but slightly bowed will not bond evenly and will show as a soft line under a tight cover. Recording the guide setting and blade change date against each batch makes it possible to trace a defect back to its cause instead of rejecting the whole run.

Packaging, Delivery and Commercial Terms

The machine is packed for export with the band blade removed or protected, the guides secured and the frame fixed to the base. Final packing details are confirmed with the buyer before shipment, because the right solution depends on the destination port, the transport mode and the handling equipment at the receiving site.

Standard delivery is 45 working days after receipt of the down payment. Payment terms are T/T or L/C, the minimum order quantity is one set and supply ability is three sets per season, so the production calendar should be checked before a delivery date is promised to an end customer. Buyers should confirm the electrical supply, shipping destination and any documentation requirements at the enquiry stage so the machine is built for the correct market.
