Product Overview

The TDP-02 is a combined edge trimming and cross cutting machine for continuous foam sheet production. It trims the two uneven side edges of the sheet and then cuts the material to the required length in the same pass, so a laminated or peeled foam sheet leaves the line with a clean edge and a defined length instead of two separate operations.

The machine accepts a cutting width of 1000–2000 mm, a cutting thickness of 1–100 mm and a cutting speed of 1–20 m/min, with a total motor power of 10 kW. Gross weight is 5000 kg and the overall dimension is 6424 × 4600 × 2786 mm.

It is designed to sit directly behind a laminating machine or a peeling line, so the sheet does not have to be stacked, transported and re-fed. Both sides of the machine carry winding units that roll the trimmed edge scrap for storage and later reuse, which keeps the working area clear and turns offcut material into a manageable roll.

What the Machine Does in the Line
  1. 1Foam sheet arrives from the laminator or peeling line.
  2. 2Both side edges are trimmed square.
  3. 3Sheet is cut to the required length.
  4. 4Trimmed edge scrap is wound on both sides.
  5. 5Finished sheet is stacked or packed.

The order of operations is what makes the machine useful. Trimming first removes the uneven selvedge that would otherwise become a defect in the finished sheet. Cross cutting second gives a clean front and rear edge at the target length. Winding third keeps the trimmed strip under control instead of letting it accumulate on the floor.

Because the steps run in one continuous pass, the sheet is handled once. In a plant that trims and cuts on separate machines, the sheet is stacked after lamination, moved to a trimming station, stacked again and moved to a cutting station. Each transfer risks surface marks, edge damage and a length error. The TDP-02 removes those transfers from the process.

Core Design Points
Trim and Cut in One Station

Side trimming and length cutting are combined, so the sheet leaves the machine with a square edge and a defined length.

Continuous Line Integration

The machine is built to run behind a laminating or peeling line without halting the sheet between operations.

Dual Scrap Winding

A winding unit on each side rolls the trimmed edge strip for easy storage and later reuse.

How the Combined Trimming and Cutting Works

The foam sheet enters the machine on the infeed side and is guided along the working width. Two side trimming units cut away the uneven edge on each side and set the finished sheet width. The trimmed strips are taken up by the winding units as the sheet advances.

Downstream of the trimming station, the cross cut unit divides the sheet at the set length. Because the sheet is still supported across its full width at that point, the cut edge stays square and the sheet does not sag or fold. The finished sheet then leaves the machine ready for stacking or packing.

Three settings determine the result. The side trim position sets the finished width. The cross cut length sets the sheet size. The line speed sets the relationship between the sheet feed and the cutting cycle. On a line running at 1–20 m/min, the operator matches the trim and cut settings to the material and the target sheet size before production starts.

Cutting Range: Width, Thickness and Density

The 1000–2000 mm width range covers the sheet widths normally produced by PU lamination and peeling lines. A narrower sheet is trimmed to the required finished width, while a wider sheet up to the working limit can be handled without re-cutting before the line.

The 1–100 mm thickness range makes the machine suitable for both thin protective foam and thicker cushioning sheet. Thin sheet needs a light, even feed so it does not stretch as it passes the trim station; thicker sheet tolerates a heavier cut but needs consistent support to keep the cross cut square.

The density range of 15–200 kg/m³ covers soft packaging foam through to denser furniture grades. Dense sheet draws more power at the trim station, which is why the machine is fitted with a 10 kW motor group; the actual load depends on thickness, density and line speed.

Materials and Typical Finished Products
  • PU sponge: edge trimming and cross cutting of laminated or peeled sheet for furniture and mattress padding.
  • EVA: finished sheet for shoe components, luggage lining and sports padding.
  • PE foam: protective sheet for packaging and case lining.
  • EPE pearl cotton: thin protective sheet where a clean edge and a defined length are required.
  • XPE: cross-linked sheet for packaging and construction-related padding applications.

Materials outside this group, including rigid plastics, wood, mineral fibre and foam containing hard inclusions, are not within the scope of the machine. A sample trial is the quickest way to confirm settings when a new foam grade is introduced.

Position in the Production Line

The TDP-02 is a line-end machine. It works on sheet that has already been produced, laminated or peeled, and it prepares that sheet for packing or for the next conversion step.

Upstream

The machine can be placed after a laminating machine, where foam is bonded to PE film, fabric or another substrate, and after a peeling or splitting line that produces continuous sheet. The sheet must arrive at a consistent width and must be supported so that it feeds squarely into the trim station.

Downstream

Finished sheets go to stacking, counting and packing, or to a cutting station for further shaping. Where the plant produces rolls, the trimmed sheet can be wound instead of cut to length, depending on the configuration requested.

Line Layout

Because the machine is 6424 mm long and 4600 mm wide, the layout should show the infeed and outfeed clear of storage and walkways. Placing it directly after the laminator removes a stacking step and keeps the sheet flat while it is still supported.

Applications
  • Foam packaging: edge finishing for EPE and XPE protective foam sheet.
  • Furniture and mattress: PU sponge edge trimming in continuous sheet production.
  • Composite production lines: a matching unit behind a foam laminating machine.
  • Automotive interior foam: finishing and cutting of interior foam sheet.
  • Converters and traders: re-cutting purchased sheet to a clean finished size before resale.

In each case the value is the same: one pass produces a sheet with a square edge and a defined length, and the trimmed scrap is wound rather than scattered. That combination reduces handling, improves packing consistency and keeps the area around the line clean.

Comparison with Separate Trimming and Cutting
Method Typical Use / Limitation
Separate trimming and cutting machines Lower entry cost per unit, but the sheet is stacked and moved between stations, which adds handling and the risk of surface damage.
Manual trim with a hand knife Flexible for short runs, but edge straightness and sheet length depend on the operator.
Inline combined machine (TDP-02) Trims both edges and cuts to length in one continuous pass, with scrap winding on both sides; suited to a line that runs continuously.

The choice depends on volume and line structure. A plant producing short, varied batches may prefer separate units for flexibility. A plant running a laminating or peeling line for much of the shift gains more from an inline machine, because the sheet is handled once and the finished size is set before the material reaches the packing area.

Selection Guide

Four questions settle the specification. First, what finished sheet width is required? The machine covers 1000–2000 mm, so the working width should be checked against the widest and the narrowest sheet in the product range. Second, what thickness range will be run? The machine covers 1–100 mm. Third, what density range? Soft packaging foam and dense furniture foam behave differently at the trim station, so the density range should be stated at the enquiry stage. Fourth, how will the machine be integrated? Inline behind a laminator, behind a peeling line or as a stand-alone unit with an operator feeding sheet.

Buyers should also confirm the finished sheet length range, the required line speed, the space available for the 6424 × 4600 mm footprint and the electrical supply at the site. Sharing these details allows the trim and cut configuration to be confirmed in one step.

Site Requirements: Power, Floor and Environment

At 5000 kg and 6424 × 4600 × 2786 mm, the TDP-02 is a fixed installation. It should stand on a level concrete floor with adequate load capacity for the machine and the sheet being handled. A floor that deflects will disturb the trim alignment and show up as a wavy finished edge.

Allow clear space at the infeed and outfeed ends, and keep the area around the winding units accessible so that finished scrap rolls can be removed without halting the line. General lighting above the working zone helps the operator check the trimmed edge as it leaves the machine. Local extraction or general ventilation is recommended where fine foam dust is produced.

The electrical connection should be made by a qualified electrician to a circuit rated for the 10 kW motor group, with an isolator close to the operator position. Voltage, phase and frequency are confirmed for the destination country at the time of order.

Installation, Commissioning and Training

Commissioning follows a short sequence: level the frame, align the infeed guide with the upstream machine, set the side trim units to the finished width, set the cross cut length, then run a short length of sheet and measure the result. Checking the finished width at both edges and the sheet length at both ends confirms that the machine is square to the line.

Operator training covers thread-up of the sheet, trim setting, cut length setting, scrap winding and the shut-down routine. Because the machine runs inline, the operator also needs to know how to clear a jam without damaging the sheet or the trim blades, and how to restart the line in the correct order.

Operation and Maintenance
  • Before the shift: check the trim blades for damage, confirm the trim and cut settings against the work order, and inspect the winding units for correct take-up.
  • During production: watch the trimmed edge for a clean cut, keep hands away from the trim and cross cut zones, and remove full scrap rolls before they bind.
  • After the shift: isolate the power, clean dust and offcuts from the working area, and record any change in edge quality or cut length.
  • Weekly: inspect blade condition, check guide alignment and confirm fasteners on the trim and cut units.
  • Monthly: lubricate moving points, inspect electrical connections and confirm that the machine is still level and square to the line.

Spares normally held on site are a set of trim blades, cross cut blade, guide inserts and fasteners. Blade life depends on material density and abrasive content, so a plant running dense XPE or filled foam should keep more blade stock than a plant running soft PU sheet.

Quality Control

A three-point check at the machine catches many defects before the sheet reaches packing. Check the finished width at both edges, which reveals trim drift or a sheet that is not feeding square. Check the cut length at the start and end of each batch, which shows if the cross cut setting has moved. Check the cut face for tearing or a rounded edge, which points to blade condition or feed speed.

For laminated sheet, also check that the trimmed edge does not delaminate. A trim blade that is dull or set too aggressively can lift the film at the edge, and that defect appears later as a loose edge in the finished product. Recording the trim setting, cut length and blade change date against each batch makes it possible to trace a problem back to its cause.
