TDP-S-1/2 Foam Shredder for Recycled Foam Filler

The TDP-S-1/2 shreds PU foam offcuts into crumb from 2 mm to 30 mm at 150 kg/h. Motor power is 15 kW, the machine weighs 700 kg, discharge is by air conveying blower and the footprint is 1500*500 mm. It is CE certified.

Offcuts are the cheapest raw material a foam plant has, and most of them end up in a skip. Shredded to a controlled particle size, the same offcuts become filler for rebonded block, cushion stuffing or packaging, and the sieve sets what the material can be sold or reused as.

The Machine at a Glance

2-30 mm particle size

The sieve sets crumb size, so one machine covers filler and stuffing grades.

150 kg/h output

Offcut volume from a cutting line is cleared within the shift.

15 kW motor

Power to shred firm foam, not only soft sponge.

Turning Offcuts into Usable Crumb
  1. Sort the offcuts. Keep PU with PU; mixed material makes mixed crumb.
  2. Pre-cut oversized pieces. Pieces that will not enter the hopper are cut down first.
  3. Fit the sieve. Choose the mesh for the target particle size between 2 mm and 30 mm.
  4. Feed evenly. Steady feed gives a steady 150 kg/h and protects the motor.
  5. Collect the crumb. The air conveying blower delivers it to the bag or bin.
  6. Bag and label. Record the mesh used so the crumb can be reused to a known size.

The sieve decides what the crumb is worth. A 30 mm crumb suits stuffing and loose fill, a 2-5 mm crumb suits bonded block, and mixing the two produces material that suits neither.

Particle Size Decides the Second Life

Shredded foam is only worth what its particle size allows. A coarse 30 mm crumb is a stuffing material. A fine 2-5 mm crumb can be bonded into block, because fine crumb gives more contact area and a denser bond. Running one sieve and calling it recycled material leaves most of the value on the floor.

The sieve is the control. Changing the mesh takes minutes and changes the product, so a plant can serve a stuffing order in the morning and a rebond batch in the afternoon from the same offcuts.

Output matters as much as size. At 150 kg/h on a 15 kW drive, the machine matches the offcut rate of a working cutting line, which means the waste is processed as it is produced instead of accumulating in bags in the corner of the plant.

  • Mesh for the market: 30 mm for stuffing, 2-5 mm for bonded block.
  • Sort before shredding: mixed grades make mixed crumb.
  • Process at the line: 150 kg/h keeps up with the cutting rate.
Bag each mesh size separately and label it. Mixed crumb is the most common reason a plant decides recycled foam is not worth the effort.

Core Advantages
  • Controlled particle size: 2-30 mm from the sieve, so the crumb suits the end use.
  • Offcut recovery: cutting waste becomes filler instead of disposal cost.
  • 150 kg/h: matched to the offcut volume of a working cutting line.
  • 15 kW drive: handles firm PU grades as well as soft sponge.
  • Air conveying discharge: crumb is blown to a bag or bin, not shovelled out.
  • Compact 1500*500 mm footprint: fits beside the cutting line, so offcuts never travel.
  • CE certified: export-ready guarding and electrics.
Primary Applications
  • Rebonded foam: crumb as the base material for rebond block.
  • Cushion stuffing: shredded foam for cushions and bean bags.
  • Packaging loose fill: crumb as protective fill.
  • Mattress scrap recovery: trim and offcut recycling at the line.
  • Furniture foam waste: workshop offcut reprocessing.
  • Foam conversion: scrap volume reduced before disposal.

Shredder Faults and Their Causes
Symptom Likely cause Action
Crumb comes out coarser than specified Sieve mesh worn or wrong mesh fitted Replace the sieve with the mesh for the target size
Output drops below 150 kg/h Blades dull or sieve blinded with dust Sharpen or rotate the blades, clean the sieve
Discharge pipe blocks Blower airflow low or pipe bend too tight Clear the pipe, check the blower and smooth the bend
Machine vibrates and gets noisy Rotor imbalance or worn bearings Stop the machine, check rotor and bearings
Motor overloads and trips Offcuts fed in too fast or too large Feed evenly and pre-cut oversized offcuts
Dust escapes around the hopper Hopper seal worn or bag filter full Replace the seal, empty or replace the filter

Shredder faults are usually about what goes in, not what comes out. Feed offcuts evenly, keep the sieve clear, and check the blades on a schedule rather than waiting for output to drop.

Operation, Safety and Material Handling

Never put a hand into the hopper. The rotor turns fast enough that a jam is cleared by tools, not fingers, and the machine should be isolated before any jam is touched.

Keep metal, wood and hard plastic out of the offcut pile. A staple or a piece of pallet in the hopper damages a blade in one pass, and blade damage shows up as coarser crumb rather than as a noise.

  • No hands in the hopper: isolate the machine before clearing a jam.
  • Foreign material out: metal, wood and hard plastic damage blades.
  • Even feed: steady input, no surges that trip the motor.
  • Guarding: hopper guard fitted, interlocks working.

Blade Care and Daily Maintenance

Blades and sieve are the maintenance items that decide output. Check the blade edge weekly and the sieve every shift, because a blinded sieve cuts output long before the blades are actually dull.

Keep the air conveying line clear. A partial blockage reduces discharge, crumb builds in the pipe, and the machine starts to run against its own output instead of against the offcuts.

  • Every shift: sieve condition, discharge pipe, hopper area.
  • Weekly: blade edge, rotor run-out, belt tension.
  • Monthly: bearings, blower, motor current check.
  • After a mesh change: run a sample and check the particle size.

Packaging and Delivery

The machine ships in export packing as a compact unit. At 700 kg and a 1500*500*800 mm footprint, it can be placed beside a cutting line rather than in a separate waste area.

Delivery is 45 working days after downpayment, payment by T/T or L/C, minimum order one set. Spare blades and sieve meshes for other particle sizes ship with the machine.
